At the regional level, we actively participated in negotiating and adopting the Tokyo Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia as well as in other activities within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia, adopted on 11 November 2004 in Tokyo, is expected to strengthen regional cooperation in preventing and combating piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia.30 It will establish a network of cooperation and information sharing among the maritime safety and coastguard institutions of 16 Asian States.

We also support the IMO's efforts to promote regional cooperation to address this problem, and we have participated in many meetings and seminars organized by the IMO to enhance implementation of its guidelines on preventing such attacks.
