Additionally, the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children supplementing the Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime recognizes that all children under eighteen who are sexually exploited are trafficking victims (article 3).

The instruments of accession to the Convention, to the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the Convention, and to the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Air and Sea, supplementing the Convention, were deposited with the Secretary-General on 20 April 2005.
