إن الحاجة الملحّة للمساعدة على إذكاء الوعي ودعم الضحايا وحماية النساء والفتيات اللائي يتعرضن للخطر، من خلال إشراك جميع القطاعات وكافة مستويات المجتمع، ستحظى بدعم كبير عندما يتكلم المجتمع الدولي ككل ويتخذ موقفاً مشتركاً لا لبس فيه.

29. The Mission, in collaboration with United Nations agencies, funds and programmes, will continue to support the development and implementation of a national strategy to promote gender equality and empowerment of women and to protect women and girls from gender-based violence.

Vitally, the resolution recognizes that legislation banning female genital mutilation is of primary importance in providing the framework for action, urging States to take all necessary measures, including enacting and enforcing legislation, to prohibit female genital mutilations and to protect women and girls from this form of violence, and to end impunity.

Among other things, the plan seeks to ensure women's participation and protection in the post-conflict transition and the protection of women and girls against gender-based violence.

7.40. Governments and communities should urgently take steps to stop the practice of female genital mutilation and protect women and girls from all such similar unnecessary and dangerous practices.
