Whatever the causes of the current stalemate, my delegation believes that it is pertinent to ask, where do we go from here? How do we get out of this impasse? What is the way forward?

We welcome the efforts of the sponsors of this initiative, but my delegation believes that the draft resolution, important though it is, and though we agree with many of its ideas, poses some problems.

I wish to conclude by stating that my delegation believes that initiatives concerning simplification of the Secretariat structures, regrouping of its activities and assigning priorities to its programme of work are of a substantive nature and should not be considered merely managerial or administrative.

my delegation believes that equality is a vital aspect of democracy which we must enshrine in such fields as the role of small States in the global system, the participation of women and the composition and structure of the Security Council.

As for the regional commissions, my delegation believes they should prioritize their fields of activity and accelerate their efforts to restructure in order to enhance their general efficiency and effectiveness.

It is also my delegation's belief that the further reduction of conventional arms and the increase in the transparency of military budgets and the arms trade of States would promote confidence-building.
كما أن وفدي يعتقد أن المزيد من التخفيض في الأسلحة التقليدية وزيادة الشفافية في الميزانيات العسكرية واتجار الدول بالأسلحة سيعزز من تدابير بناء الثقة.
