It requested ECA to continue to work closely with the African Union Commission, the AfDB and other organizations in strengthening the capacity of member States and their intergovernmental organizations to address climate-related issues, including by providing technical support to African countries in the ongoing negotiations for a new international climate change regime.

147. Assisted by its MULPOCs, ECA undertook activities with a view to strengthening subregional economic integration and cooperation. Technical assistance was provided to countries of the five subregions and their intergovernmental organizations to promote cooperation through the harmonization, coordination and rationalization of their work programmes and activities.

16.11 (a) Substantive progress was made at the national, subregional and regional levels in the emplacement of the various institutional arrangements required for the establishment of the African Economic Community through the ECA advocacy programmes to sensitize African countries and their intergovernmental organizations to issues of economic cooperation and integration.

84. The agencies, funds, programmes and intergovernmental organizations of the United Nations system should develop or further pursue initiatives within their respective programme areas which are aimed at promoting the rights of indigenous peoples, in accordance with the Declaration.
