5. The National Conference on Children was held in the city of Aleppo on 8 and 9 February 2004, under the distinguished patronage of Asmaa al-Assad, the wife of the President of the Republic. The main themes discussed at the Conference were violence against children, the sexual exploitation of children, child labour and juvenile delinquency;

1. The authors of the communication, initially dated 12 June 2006, are Kasem Said Ahmad and Asmaa Abdol-Hamid, both Danish nationals, born on 26 September 1960 and 22 November 1981, respectively.

74. In the case Kasem Said Ahmad and Asmaa Abdol-Hamid v. Denmark, the complainants alleged that they were denied an effective remedy for incitement to hatred against Muslims, prohibited under article 20 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

12. The Fund for Integrated Rural Development in Syria (FIRDOS) was launched in July 2001. FIRDOS is a non-profit organization established in July 2001 under the distinguished patronage of Ms. Asmaa al-Assad, the wife of the President of the Republic. Its aim is to support comprehensive socio-economic development and community development in rural areas of the SAR, with particular focus on consciousness-raising and the empowerment of rural women.

34. A national conference on children was held from 7 to 9 February 2004 in Aleppo under the patronage of Mrs. Asmaa Al-Assad, the wife of the President of the Republic.
