It further recalls its general recommendation No. 19 (1992) on violence against women, according to which discrimination against women within the meaning of article 1 encompasses gender-based violence, i.e., " violence that is directed against a woman because she is a woman or that affects women disproportionately.

106- وأشارت لجنة القضاء على التمييز ضد المرأة، في توصيتها العامة رقم 19(1992) بشأن العنف ضد المرأة، إلى ما يلي: " يشمل تعريف التمييز الذي يستهدف المرأة العنف القائم على أساس نوع الجنس - أي العنف الموجّه ضد المرأة بسبب كونها امرأة أو العنف الذي يمس المرأة على نحو جائر " ().

As for prohibition of dismissal, article 167 of the Labour and Workers Law prohibits the dismissal of a woman because of pregnancy and maternity leave, stating that the employer may not dismiss a female worker on pregnancy and maternity leave.
