وعقد مؤتمر عالمي لمكافحة العنصرية والتمييز العنصري في المستقبل القريب يعطي إشارة واضحة على تصميم المجتمع العالمي على معالجة بلاء العنصرية بحزم ويتيح فرصة هامة لاتخاذ نهج شامل ولوضع استراتيجيات عملية المنحى لمكافحة العنصرية والتمييز العنصري.

Recalling its resolution 1996/8 of 23 August 1996, in which the Sub—Commission expressed its full support for the convening, as soon as possible, of a world conference to combat racism and racial discrimination,

٥- تدعو اﻷمين العام الى أن يدرج في مقترحاته الى الجمعية العامة ﻹكمال برنامج عمل العقد الثالث اقتراحاً محسوساً لعقد مؤتمر عالمي لمكافحة العنصرية والتمييز العنصري قبل نهاية القرن؛

25. Requests once again the Secretary-General to consult Member States and intergovernmental, as well as non-governmental, organizations on the possibility of holding a world conference to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and other related contemporary forms of intolerance;
٢٥ - تطلب مرة أخرى إلى اﻷمين العام أن يتشاور مع الدول اﻷعضاء، والمنظمات الحكومية الدولية، وكذلك المنظمات غير الحكومية، بشأن امكانية عقد مؤتمر عالمي لمكافحة العنصرية والتمييز العنصري وكراهية اﻷجانب وما يتصل بذلك من اﻷشكال المعاصرة للتعصب؛

The possibility of holding a world conference to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and other related contemporary forms of intolerance, broached on the recommendation of the Third Committee in General Assembly resolution 50/136, had not made much headway, since only two States had thus far expressed their interest to the Secretary-General.
وقال إنه لم يجر إحراز تقدم يذكر بشأن إمكانية عقد مؤتمر عالمي لمكافحة العنصرية والتمييز العنصري وكراهية اﻷجانب وما يتصل بذلك من أشكال التعصب المعاصرة اﻷخرى، الذي تطرق إليه قرار الجمعية العامة ٥٠/١٣٦ بناء على توصية اللجنة الثالثة، فحتى اﻵن لم تعرب سوى دولتان لﻷمين العام عن اهتمامهما بذلك.
