In general recommendation 15, it makes clear that the Convention requires avoidance of discrimination against women in national strategies for the prevention and control of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), while in general recommendation 18 it indicates that article 3 of the Convention requires States Parties to avoid discrimination against disabled women.

In its general recommendation No. 15, on the avoidance of discrimination against women in national strategies for the prevention and control of AIDS, adopted in 1990,5 the Committee highlighted the link between women's reproductive role, their subordinate social position, and their increased vulnerability to HIV infection.

290. The State Party takes note of Millennium Development Goal 6 in respect to the avoidance of discrimination against women in national strategies for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and has adopted strategies in respect to the same to ensure that women do not face discrimination.
290 - - وتحيط الدولة الطرف علما بالهدف 6 من الأهداف الإنمائية للألفية فيما يتعلق بتجنب التمييز ضد المرأة في الاستراتيجيات الوطنية من أجل الوقاية من مرض الإيدز ومكافحته، وأنها اعتمدت استراتيجيات تتعلق بهذا الموضوع لضمان عدم التمييز ضد المرأة.

No distinction is drawn between men and women in respect of the Government's efforts to provide care for AIDS victims, in accordance with the Committee's general recommendation No. 15, which has to do with the avoidance of discrimination against women in national strategies for the prevention and control of AIDS.
