وبمواكبة هذه المسيرة الديمقراطية، وطبقا لما قاله فخامة رئيس الجمهورية، السيد معاوية ولد سيدي أحمد الطايع وهو أننا:

On 8 April he held talks in Nouakchott with the President of Mauritania, Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya, and other senior Mauritanian officials.
وفي 8 نيسان/أبريل، أجرى محادثات في نواكشوط مع الرئيس معاوية ولد سيد أحمد طايع رئيس موريتانيا وغيره من كبار المسؤولين الموريتانيين.

With this new achievement, the Mauritanian people will confirm that it has become, as stated by His Excellency President Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya, “the source of sovereignty and legality” and the master of its own destiny and affairs.

" انه لمن دواعي الغبطة والسعادة أن أتوجه بهذا الخطاب الى هذا الجمع العالمي الموقر، باسم رئيس الجمهورية اﻹسلامية الموريتانية، فخامة السيد معاوية ولد سيد أحمد الطايع.

That policy took a dramatic turn when Colonel Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya took power, and Halpular officers were executed in 1987, followed by a wave of arrests and the demobilization of thousands of Halpular soldiers, who were accused of trying to overthrow the Government.

5. On 7 and 8 November, I was received in Nouakchott by the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya, and met with the Prime Minister, Mohamed Lemine Ould Guig, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh El-Avia Ould Mohamed Khouna.

Mr. Baker submitted his proposal, entitled " Peace plan for self-determination for the people of Western Sahara " to King Mohammed VI of Morocco on 14 January 2003, to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria on 15 January 2003, and to the Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, and President Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya of Mauritania on 16 January 2003.

In October 1996, he also met in Algiers with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, and in Nouakchott with the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mr. Maaouiya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya, and his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lehmrabet Sidi Mahmoud Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

8. In Nouakchott, on 26 April, my Personal Envoy was received by the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Mr. Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya, and met with Prime Minister Sheikh El-Avia Ould Mohamed Khouna, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sidi Ould Khliva, and the Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations, Mr. Ahmed Ould Sid'Ahmed.
