The guidelines have already been communicated to Member States and the bureaux of all functional commissions and discussions have been undertaken, starting from the premise that the volume of reporting can be reduced only if the Council and its subsidiary bodies exercise restraint in their requests for documentation and streamline the reports on their work.

Since 1997, the analysis of the work of all functional commissions in regard to their attention to gender issues in follow-up to the Beijing Conference has been submitted in an annual report to the Council (see, for example, E/2000/77).
