Article 5 of the Convention calls on States parties to take all appropriate measures to modify the patterns of conduct of men and women " with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices that are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " .
وتدعو الاتفاقية في مادتها 5 الدول الأطراف إلى أن تعتمد جميع التدابير المناسبة لتعديل أنماط سلوك الرجال والنساء، ' ' بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على الاعتقاد بكون أي من الجنسين أدنى أو أعلى من الآخر، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة``.

a) Measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles of men and women.
تدابير لتعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوّق أحد الجنسين، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة.

Those practices also contravene the resolution adopted by the Human Rights Council at its most recent session, which called on Israel to desist from imposing Israeli citizenship on the Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan, and from its repressive measures against them, as well as all other practices which affect the human rights of the population of the occupied Syrian Golan.
كما تتعارض مع قرار مجلس حقوق الإنسان الذي اعتمد بتاريخ 24 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2006 والذي يطلب من إسرائيل الكف عن فرض المواطنة الإسرائيلية على المواطنين السوريين في الجولان السوري المحتل وبالكف عن تدابيرها القمعية ضدهم وعن جميع الممارسات الأخرى التي تمس حقوق الإنسان لسكان الجولان السوري المحتل.

Notwithstanding the wide-ranging nature of the phrase " customary and all other practices " and the possibility of including religion-based discrimination among those practices, it should not be forgotten that in many countries, as will be seen, gender discrimination is in fact founded on cultural and/or religious practices.

85. 85- تتخذ تركمانستان جميع التدابير المناسبة لتعديل الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة لتحقيق القضاء على التحيزات والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوق أحد الجنسين أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة.

This includes the obligation to modify " the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority or the superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women " (article 5).
ويشمل ذلك الالتزام بتعديل ' ' الأنماط الاجتماعية والثقافية لسلوك الرجل والمرأة، بهدف تحقيق القضاء على التحيز والعادات العرفية وكل الممارسات الأخرى القائمة على فكرة دونية أو تفوّق أحد الجنسين، أو على أدوار نمطية للرجل والمرأة`` (المادة 5).

6. The report acknowledges the persistence of gender stereotypes in the country; however, it provides little information on concrete actions taken by the State party to eliminate prejudices and customary and all other practices based on the idea of the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women, including by ensuring that its policies and programmes do not perpetuate gender stereotypes.

3. Further calls upon Israel to desist from imposing Israeli citizenship and Israeli identity cards on the Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan and to desist from its repressive measures against them, and from all other practices mentioned in the report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories;
3- تطلب كذلك إلى إٍسرائيل الكف عن فرض المواطنة الإسرائيلية وبطاقات الهوية الإسرائيلية على المواطنين السوريين في الجولان السوري المحتل، وبالكف عن تدابيرها القمعية ضدهم، وعن جميع الممارسات الأخرى المشار إليها في تقرير اللجنة الخاصة المعنية بالتحقيق في الممارسات الإسرائيلية التي تمس حقوق الإنسان للشعب الفلسطيني وغيره من السكان العرب في الأراضي المحتلة؛

(k) Adopt all appropriate measures, especially in the field of education, to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, and to eliminate prejudices, customary practices and all other practices based on the idea of the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes and on stereotyped roles for men and women;
