In paragraph 56 of resolution 66/246, the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to strengthen the provision of technical assistance to the Office through the West Africa Coast Initiative in order to support the implementation of a regional action plan to address the growing problem of illicit drug trafficking, organized crime and drug abuse in West Africa.

In the context of peace, security and cross-border challenges, achievements in the area of drug trafficking and organized crime include the vast mobilization of international support for the ECOWAS regional action plan to address the growing problem of illicit drug trafficking, organized crime and drug abuse in West Africa.
