19. That alternative proposal was seen as establishing a more favourable regime for recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards than was provided for under the New York Convention, and therefore, by virtue of the " more favourable law provision " contained in article VII, paragraph (1), of the New York Convention, the Arbitration Model Law would apply instead of article II, paragraph (2), of the New York Convention.

This rule is in conformity with the aim of bilateral or multilateral conventions in this matter, which is to facilitate, as much as possible, the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards. "

7. It took a while for practitioners to avail themselves of the possibilities offered by article VI. Now, courts around the world have applied this provision with a view to promoting the objectives of the Convention by facilitating the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and avoiding inconsistent decisions.
