The High Commissioner launched the joint statement at the above-mentioned panel discussion .

At a special event of the Economic and Social Council on the right to development and global partnership for development held at the Council's substantive session in July 2011, views were exchanged on how the promotion of the right to development and the achievement of Millennium Development Goal 8 can reinforce each other and how the United Nations system can use these synergies in the perspective of 2015 and beyond.
