19. The Commission and its secretariat had made a significant contribution to the development and harmonization of international trade law and continued to explore new areas in which they could contribute to economic development and legal certainty.

OPENING OF THE SESSION 1. The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN said that current international developments made the unification and harmonization of international trade law increasingly important.

14 - تعرب عن تقديرها للسيد جيرولد هرمان، أمين لجنة الأمم المتحدة للقانون التجاري الدولي منذ عام 1991، الذي سيتقاعد في 31 كانون الثاني/يناير 2001، لإسهامه البارز وتفانيه في العمل فيما يتصل بعملية توحيد وتنسيق القانون التجاري الدولي عموما، واللجنة خصوصا.

5 - تشدد على أهمية إعمال الاتفاقيات المنبثقة عن أعمال اللجنة من أجل توحيد وتنسيق القانون التجاري الدولي على الصعيد العالمي، وتحقيقا لهذه الغاية تحث الدول على النظر في التوقيع على تلك الاتفاقيات أو التصديق عليها أو الانضمام إليها إن لم تكن قد فعلت ذلك بعد؛

Progressive modernization and harmonization of international trade law would contribute significantly to economic cooperation among all States; however, such cooperation must be based on the principles of equality, equity, common interest and respect for the rule of law.
وأضاف أن التحديث التدريجي ومواءمة القانون التجاري الدولي سوف يسهمان كثيراً في التعاون الاقتصادي فيما بين جميع الدول؛ غير أن مثل هذا التعاون يجب أن يقوم على مبادئ المساواة والعدالة والمصلحة المشتركة واحترام سيادة القانون.

Such coordination would help to promote the unification and harmonization of international trade law.
ومن المتوقع أن يساعد ذلك التنسيق على توحيد القانون التجاري الدولي ومواءمته.

50. The Commission should coordinate its complex activities in order to avoid duplication and promote efficiency and consistency in the unification and harmonization of international trade law.
٥٠ - واختتم كلمته قائلا إن على اللجنة أن تنسق أنشطتها المعقدة بهدف تجنب الازدواجية وتشجيع الكفاءة والاتساق في توحيد القانون التجاري الدولي وتطويره التدريجي.
