Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 60/259, the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) is presenting its report regarding the audits and investigative reviews of the tsunami relief operations conducted by the United Nations Secretariat, funds and programmes and specialized agencies.

In paragraph 8 of its report in document A/61/667/Add.1, the Committee recommends to the General Assembly the adoption of a draft resolution on the audit and investigative reviews of the tsunami relief operations conducted by the United Nations Secretariat, funds and programmes and specialized agencies.

For its further consideration of this item, the Committee had before it the report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services on the audit and investigative reviews of the tsunami relief operations conducted by the United Nations Secretariat, funds and programmes and specialized agencies (A/61/669).

4. At the 45th meeting, on 30 March, the representative of Italy and coordinator of the informal consultations introduced, on behalf of the Chairman, a draft resolution entitled " Audit and investigative reviews of the tsunami relief operations conducted by the United Nations Secretariat, funds and programmes and the specialized agencies " (A/C.5/61/L.41).

Recalls paragraph 14 of its resolution 60/259, and, regretting the lack of cooperation with the Office of Internal Oversight Services in the preparation of the consolidated report on internal audits and investigative reviews of the tsunami relief operation, as requested in its resolution 60/259, again stresses the importance of full implementation of legislative decisions;

34. As stated in its previous report (A/61/264 (Part I)), OIOS had not been able to fulfil a request from the General Assembly to report on the audit and investigative reviews of the tsunami relief operations conducted by the Secretariat, funds, programmes and specialized agencies, owing to a lack of consensus on the nature of internal reports.
