Shortly after being appointed Secretary-General of the League of Arab States in the middle of 2001, I realised the importance and necessity of paying special attention to solving the long-standing financial crisis of the Secretariat-General caused by its meagre budget, problems related to the payment of contributions and resulting impact on the desired programmes and projects of the League and its specialized organizations.
240 - وبعد فترة وجيزة من تكليفي بمهام الأمين العام للجامعة العربية في منتصف عام 2001 أدركت أهمية وضرورة إعطاء عناية خاصة لحل مشكلة الأزمة المالية التي تُعاني منها الأمانة العامة منذ سنوات بسبب تواضع حجم موازنتها والمشاكل المتعلقة بسداد المساهمات وتأثير ذلك سلبياً على البرامج والمشاريع المطلوب إنجازها من قِبَل الجامعة العربية ومؤسساتها المتخصصة.
