1. The present report was prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 58/269, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to entrust the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), in collaboration with the Joint Inspection Unit, with submitting to the General Assembly for consideration at its sixtieth session proposals on the strengthening and monitoring of programme performance and evaluation.

Ms. Ahlenius (Under-Secretary-General for Internal Oversight Services), introducing the report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) on proposals on the strengthening and monitoring of programme performance and evaluation (A/60/73), said that the report had been prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 58/269.

In that regard, the European Union welcomed the joint report of JIU and OIOS on the strengthening and monitoring of programme performance and evaluation (A/60/73). It also welcomed the efforts of OIOS to strengthen the results-based management culture within the United Nations as a way to make the Organization's work and use of resources more effective.
وأعربت في هذا الصدد عن ترحيب الاتحاد الأوروبي بالتقرير المشترك المقدم من وحدة التفتيش ومكتب الرقابة بشأن تعزيز أداء وتقييم البرامج ورصدها (A/60/73)، وعن ترحيبه كذلك بجهود مكتب الرقابة لتعزيز ثقافة الإدارة على أساس النتائج داخل الأمم المتحدة كسبيل لزيادة فعالية عمل المنظمة واستخدامها للموارد.

The present report was prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 58/269 of 23 December 2003, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to entrust the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), in collaboration with the Joint Inspection Unit, with submitting to the General Assembly for consideration at its sixtieth session proposals on the strengthening and monitoring of programme performance and evaluation.
