The Ministers welcomed the adoption of General Assembly resolutions 61/19 and 62/122 related to the abolition of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and its consequences, as well as General Assembly resolution 63/5, 64/15, 65/23966/114 67/108, and 68/7 related to the Permanent memorial to and remembrance of the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade.

Although no explicit mention is made therein of the permanent memorial to and remembrance of the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, primary and secondary school materials -- especially on history, language, literature and civics -- do afford teachers and students the opportunity to study the issue of slavery, both past and present.
وعلى الرغم من عدم وجود إشارة صريحة في مواد التعليم الابتدائي والثانوي للنصب التذكاري الدائم الذي أُقيم تخليداً لذكرى ضحايا الرق وتجارة الرقيق عبر المحيط الأطلسي، فإن هذه المواد - خاصة التاريخ واللغة والأدب والتربية الوطنية - تتيح بالفعل للمعلِّمين والطلاب الفرصة لدراسة مسألة الرق، سواء في الماضي أو الحاضر.

It is the understanding of the Secretary-General that the request in paragraph 14 is in line with the terms under paragraphs 6 and 7 of resolution 65/239, entitled " Permanent memorial to and remembrance of the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade " .
