Also we would welcome the deployment of human rights officers to monitor and report on the human rights situation during the period leading to the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held in 2007.

Furthermore, in his letter of 2 April (S/2006/230, annex), President Gusmão specifically indicated that the Government would welcome the deployment of human rights officers " to monitor and report on the human rights situation during the period leading to the presidential and parliamentary elections " .
