The Basel Convention emphasizes, amongst other principles, environmentally sound management of hazardous wastes, which is defined as taking all practicable steps to ensure that hazardous wastes are managed in a manner which will protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects which may result from such wastes.
وتؤكد اتفاقية بازل على عدة مبادئ من بينها الإدارة السليمة بيئياً للنفايات الخطرة والتي تعرف باتخاذ جميع الخطوات الممكنة عملياً لضمان إدارة النفايات الخطرة بصورة تحمي الصحة البشرية والبيئة من الآثار الضارة التي قد تنجم عن هذه النفايات.

68. Thus, the establishment in 1989 of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, has significantly contributed to the protection of human health and the environment against the adverse effects of exposure to and improper disposal of hazardous and other waste.

وينبغي لنظام الإدارة أن يتخذ جميع الخطوات العملية لضمان إدارة النفايات الخطرة بصورة تقي صحة الإنسان والبيئة من الآثار الضارة التي قد تنجم عن مثل هذه النفايات.(11)

The management system must be such that all practicable steps are taken to ensure that hazardous wastes are managed in a manner that protects human health and the environment against the adverse effects that may result from such wastes.
وينبغي لنظام الإدارة أن يتخذ جميع الخطوات العملية لضمان إدارة النفايات الخطرة بصورة تقي صحة الإنسان والبيئة من الآثار الضارة التي قد تنجم عن مثل هذه النفايات.(12)

(d) Ensure that the transboundary movement of hazardous wastes and other wastes is reduced to the minimum consistent with the environmentally sound and efficient management of such wastes, and is conducted in a manner which will protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects which may result from such movement;
(د) ضمان خفض حركة النفايات الخطرة والنفايات الأخرى عبر الحدود إلى الحد الأدنى بما يتفق مع الإدارة السليمة بيئياً والفعالة لهذه النفايات، وأن تجرى الحركة بطريقة توفر الحماية للصحة البشرية والبيئة من الآثار الضارة التي قد تنجم عن هذه الحركة؛

It aims to protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects of the generation, management, transboundary movements and disposal of hazardous and other wastes, including the trade of chemicals at the end of their life cycle.
