The theme of the first African Development Forum, organized by the Economic Commission for Africa and held at Addis Ababa in October 1999, was " The challenge to Africa of globalization and the information age " .

It was attended by 950 participants, including senior Government and United Nations officials, technical experts from the public and private sectors and academicians.
وركّز منتدى التنمية الأفريقي الأول الذي انعقد في أديس أبابا عام 1999 على موضوع " التحدي الذي تمثِّله العولمة وعصر المعلومات بالنسبة لأفريقيا " ، وحضره 950 مشاركا بعضهم من كبار المسؤولين في الحكومات وفي الأمم المتحدة والخبراء التقنيين من القطاعين العام والخاص الأكاديميون.
