٣١ - يدعو حلقة العمل المعنية بالمرأة في نظام العدالة الجنائية، التي ستعقد أثناء مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة العاشر لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين في فيينا في نيسان/أبريل ٠٠٠٢، إلى النظر في مدى استصواب اجراء دراسة استقصائية دولية، في مجال الايذاء، بشأن العنف ضد المرأة، يتسنى بها للدول اﻷعضاء وللمجتمع الدولي صوغ سياسات ذات توجه عملي من أجل القضاء على العنف ضد المرأة؛

This should also lead to greater coordination and policy impact of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme in combating such crime and an increased role of the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in collecting and sharing data and other information on extradition and mutual legal assistance instruments in Africa.
وحري بذلك أن يؤدي أيضا الى تحقيق قدر أكبر من التنسيق ومن التأثير في السياسات العامة ، من خلال برنامج اﻷمم المتحدة لمنع الجريمة والعدالة الجنائية بشأن مكافحة هذا النوع من الجريمة ، وكذلك الى زيادة دور المعهد الافريقي لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين في جمع وتقاسم البيانات وغيرها من المعلومات عن صكوك تسليم المجرمين والمساعدة القانونية المتبادلة في افريقيا .

Particular attention should be paid to the proliferation of conventional weapons, especially light arms, small arms and firearms in the African region, where such weapons pose a serious problem to disarmament and crime prevention, and the involvement of the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in projects on the prevention and control of illicit trafficking in those weapons.
وينبغي توجيه انتباه مخصوص الى انتشار اﻷسلحة التقليدية ، وخاصة اﻷسلحة الخفيفة واﻷسلحة الصغيرة واﻷسلحة النارية في المنطقة الافريقية ، حيث تطرح تلك اﻷسلحة مشكلة خطيرة تعرقل نزع السلاح ومنع الجريمة ، وكذلك ينبغي اشراك المعهد الافريقي لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين في مشاريع تعنى بمراقبة ومنع الاتجار غير المشروع بتلك اﻷسلحة .

The possibility of elected or appointed judges is recognized in principle 12 of the Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary, adopted by the Seventh United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in 1985 and endorsed by the General Assembly in resolutions 40/32 of 29 November 1985 and 40/146 of 13 December 1985.
