Those delegations considered that, currently, the most important tasks in relation to the implementation of UNCLOS were the follow-up of Part XII (Protection and preservation of the marine environment), Part XIII (Marine scientific research) and Part XIV (Development and transfer of marine technology) of UNCLOS.
واعتبرت هذه الوفود أن أهم الأعمال حاليا فيما يتصل بتنفيذ الاتفاقية تتمثل في متابعة الجزء الثاني عشر (حماية البيئة البحرية والحفاظ عليها)، والجزء الثالث عشر (البحث العلمي البحري)، والجزء الرابع عشر (تنمية التكنولوجيا البحرية ونقلها).

473. The provisions of UNCLOS dealing with the development and transfer of marine technology are contained mainly in Part XIV. UNCLOS provides for the promotion of the development and transfer of marine technology (article 266 (1)).
473- تَرِدُ أحكام اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لقانون البحار التي تهتم بتنمية التكنولوجيا البحرية ونقلها أساسا في الجزء الرابع عشر. وتنص الاتفاقية على النهوض بتنمية التكنولوجيا البحرية ونقلها (المادة 266 (1)).

The UNCLOS provisions in articles 202, 203 under Part XII and the provisions on the development and transfer of marine technology under Part XIV may need to be fully implemented to enable developing States, including small island developing States, to be in a position to better perform the obligations expected of them as parties to UNCLOS.

Attention was drawn at the seventh meeting to the ongoing development of the roster of experts and orientation guide established pursuant to IOC resolution XXIII-8 for the purpose of providing IOC member States, upon request, with advice and assistance in the development of national legislation relating to part XIII of the Convention, on marine scientific research, and part XIV on the development and transfer of marine technology.
