In that connection, the Committee took note of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action for Applications of Space Technology and Geographic Information Systems for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development, 2012-2017, adopted by ESCAP at its sixty-ninth session.

16.32 The subprogramme will assist member States in deepening and broadening the Applications of Space Technology and geographical information systems for managing disaster risks and achieving sustainable development, especially in highrisk and low-capacity developing countries.

It requested the Executive Secretary, in collaboration with partners, to further strengthen regional space cooperation on disaster risk reduction, including the Applications of Space Technology and geographic information systems, by enhancing the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development and its education and training networks.

The subprogramme will be delivered through regional cooperation mechanisms, including the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development and the Regional Cooperative Mechanism for Drought Monitoring and Early Warning, and through the implementation of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action for Applications of Space Technology and the Geographic Information System for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development, 2012-2017.

In that connection, the Committee noted the resolution entitled " Asia-Pacific Years of Action for Applications of Space Technology and Geographic Information System for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development, 2012-2017 " , adopted by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific at its sixty-eighth session, held in Bangkok in May 2012.
وفي هذا الصدد، أشارت اللجنة إلى القرار المعنون " سنوات العمل في آسيا والمحيط الهادئ على الاستفادة من تطبيقات تكنولوجيا الفضاء ونظام المعلومات الجغرافية في الحدِّ من مخاطر الكوارث وتحقيق التنمية المستدامة في الفترة 2012-2017 " ، الذي اعتمدته اللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لآسيا والمحيط الهادئ في دورتها الثامنة والستين المعقودة في بانكوك في أيار/مايو 2012.

66. In Asia and the Pacific, ESCAP has amalgamated climate change adaptation, food security and natural resource management in the implementation of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action for Applications of Space Technology and Geographic Information Systems for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development, 2012-2017, in particular, through the operationalization of a drought mechanism.
