Members of the Council have before them document S/1994/1063, which contains the text of a letter dated 15 September 1994 from the Permanent Representatives of Argentina and New Zealand to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council.

Mali welcomed the initiatives taken by the delegations of Argentina and New Zealand concerning the need to hold consultations with troop-contributing States in order to inform them of any changes which might take place with regard to the establishment of peace-keeping operations.
٣٤ - وترحب مالي بالمبادرتين اللتين اتخذهما وفدا الارجنتين ونيوزيلندا بشأن الحاجة الى عقد مشاورات مع الدول المساهمة بقوات بغية إعلامها بأي تغييرات قد تحدث فيما يتعلق بإنشاء عمليات حفظ السلم.

We therefore wish to express our full support for the initiative taken by the delegations of Argentina and New Zealand.
ولذا نود أن نعرب عن تأييدنا الكامل لمبادرة وفديّ اﻷرجنتين ونيوزيلندا.

Equally, we support better coordination between the Council and troop-contributing countries, as initiated by Argentina and New Zealand.

His delegation also approved of the consultative mechanism proposed by Argentina and New Zealand within the Security Council, since such a mechanism was of great importance.

One example of that development was the collaboration which had led to the positive proposal by Argentina and New Zealand for enhancing the consultations between the Security Council and troop-contributing Member States on the fundamental aspects of peace-keeping missions.

The improved procedures for consultation between the Security Council and troop contributors, initiated by Argentina and New Zealand, have now been in place for almost a year.
منذ عام تقريبا يجري العمل بإجراءات التشاور المحسنة بين مجلس اﻷمن والبلدان المساهمة بقوات، والتي استهلتها اﻷرجنتين ونيوزيلندا.

These procedures, too, have now become an established practice, and thanks in this regard go to Argentina and New Zealand for having initiated this idea and seen it through.

The report also reflects the wide support for the proposals on working methods submitted by the Non-Aligned Movement at the forty-ninth session of the General Assembly, and those submitted by Argentina and New Zealand which, as has been stated on various occasions, are entirely complementary.

Austria thus attaches particular importance to the initiative launched by the Permanent Representatives of Argentina and New Zealand (S/1994/1063) regarding the improvement of procedures currently employed by the Security Council in its consideration of peace-keeping matters.

The political direction of peace-keeping operations was of great importance, and the Nordic countries emphasized the need to institute multilateral arrangements for regular consultation and information-sharing between the Secretariat, troop-contributing countries, and the members of the Security Council; they had supported the proposal of Argentina and New Zealand on that subject.
