This was the essence of the resolutions that proclaimed the year 2000 as the International Year for the Culture of Peace and the next decade as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World.
وقد مثل ذلك جوهر القرارات التي أعلنت سنة ٢٠٠٠ بوصفها السنة الدولية لثقافة السلام، والعقد المقبل بوصفه العقد الدولي لثقافة السلام واللاعنف ﻷطفال العالم.

447. The President of the Board reminded delegations that the General Assembly had designated the decade 2001-2010 as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace for the Children of the World.
447 - وذكَّر رئيس المجلس الوفود بأن الجمعية العامة أعلنت العقد الممتد من 2001 إلى 2010 عقدا دوليا لثقافة السلام ولصالح أطفال العالم.

This is a particularly appropriate step in view of the General Assembly's emphasis on enhancing the rights of vulnerable groups, as expressed in the Millennium Declaration, and the designation of the period 1994-2004 as the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People.

Unfortunately, in the decade proclaimed as the " International Decade for the Culture of Peace " hundreds of thousands have been killed and injured as a result of war, aggression and occupation, and hostilities and antagonism have increased.
للأسف، قتل وجرح مئات الآلاف في العقد الذي أعلن " عقدا دوليا لثقافة السلام " جراء الحروب والعدوان والاحتلال، وتزايدت العمليات القتالية والعدائية.

In 1988, two years before the thirtieth anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, the General Assembly, in its resolution 43/47, had proclaimed the decade from 1990 to the year 2000 as the International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism.
وأضاف أن سنة ١٩٩٠ التي شهدت الذكرى الثلاثين لاعتماد إعلان منح الاستقلال للبلدان والشعوب المستعمرة هي في الواقع السنة التي أعلنت فيها الجمعية العامة بموجب قرارها ٤٣/٤٧ العقد ١٩٩٠-٢٠٠٠ عقدا دوليا للقضاء على الاستعمار.

The legacy of the Year beyond 2003 is evident from the declaration by the General Assembly of 2005-2015 as the International Decade of Action, " Water for Life " .

Recalling also its previous resolutions on a culture of peace, in particular resolution 52/15 of 20 November 1997 proclaiming 2000 as the International Year for the Culture of Peace, resolution 53/25 of 10 November 1998 proclaiming the period 2001 - 2010 as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World, and resolution 55/47 of 29 November 2000,

Given that the General Assembly has declared the period 2001-2010 as the International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World, we now have an invaluable opportunity to convey a message of hope to our peoples, despite the adverse circumstances that threaten to make violence more widespread and extensive as an accepted -- though undesirable -- part of daily life.
وبالنظر إلى أن الجمعية العامة قد أعلنت الفترة 2001-2010 عقداً دولياً لثقافة السلام واللاعنف من أجل أطفال العالم، فإن لدينا الآن فرصة لا تقدر بثمن لتوجيه رسالة تبشر بالأمل لشعوبنا، بالرغم من الظروف المعاكسة التي تهدد بالمزيد من نشر العنف وتوسيع نطاقه كجزء معترف به، ولو أنه غير مرغوب فيه، من الحياة اليومية.
