1. In its resolution 49/156 of 23 December 1994, the General Assembly commended the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) for the activities it had undertaken, despite the difficulties it faced in fulfilling its mandates.

2. The General Assembly commended the Member States and organs, organizations and bodies of the United Nations system that had maintained, enhanced and initiated development cooperation with the Community and called upon the Member States and organs, organizations and bodies of the United Nations system that had not yet established contact and relationships with the Community to explore the possibility of doing so.

48. In its resolution 59/158, the General Assembly commended the Institute for its efforts to promote and coordinate regional technical cooperation activities related to crime prevention and criminal justice in Africa, although the Institute's financial situation had greatly affected its capacity to deliver services to member States more effectively and comprehensively.
48- أثنت الجمعية العامة، في قرارها 59/158، على المعهد لما يبذله من جهود من أجل تعزيز وتنسيق أنشطة التعاون التقني الإقليمي ذات الصلة بمنع الجريمة والعدالة الجنائية في أفريقيا، رغم أن الحالة المالية للمعهد قد أثّرت تأثيرا شديدا في قدرته على تقديم خدماته إلى الدول الأعضاء بطريقة فعالة وشاملة.

6. Further, the Assembly commended the vital and valuable role played by nongovernmental organizations in Cambodia, inter alia in the development of civil society and encouraged the Government to continue to work with them in efforts to strengthen and uphold human rights in Cambodia.

In the same resolution, the Assembly commended the Economic and Social Council for its debate and resolution on the question, and requested it to continue to consider, in consultation with the Special Committee, appropriate measures for the coordination of the policies and activities of the specialized agencies and other organizations of the United Nations system in implementing the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly.

In resolution 61/45, the General Assembly commended UNESCO for recognizing the promotion of a culture of peace as an expression of its fundamental mandate, and encouraged it, as lead agency for the Decade, to strengthen further the activities it had undertaken for promoting a culture of peace.

At its forty-eighth session, 166/ the General Assembly commended the Special Rapporteur for his interim report on the situation of human rights in Haiti (A/48/561, annex) and supported the recommendations contained therein; and decided to keep the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Haiti under review during its forty-ninth session (resolution 48/151).
