Engineer Moneim Attia was arrested on 8 July 1996 by the Sudan security and accused of being one of the organizers of the student demonstrations which were taking place.
٩١- وأُلقي القبض على المهندس عبد المنعم عطية في ٨ تموز/يوليه ٦٩٩١ علي يد قوات اﻷمن واتُهم بأنه من منظمي مظاهرات الطلبة التي كانت تجري آنذاك.

The Special Rapporteur met Mr. Attia on 3 August 1996 before he reported to the security office and received from him confirmation of the complaints he had submitted earlier to the office of the Attorney General, which included references to other persons who were detained with him.
وقد قابل المقرر الخاص السيد عطية في يوم ٣ آب/أغسطس ٦٩٩١ قبل توجهه إلى مكتب قوات اﻷمن وتلقى منه تأكيداً للشكاوى التي سبق أن قدمها إلى مكتب النائب العام والتي تضمنت إشارات إلى أشخاص آخرين احتُجزوا معه.

In its reply dated 27 May 1997, the Government stated that the competent authorities had confirmed the arrest of Ahmed Abdelmoneim Mohamed Attia, but that he had been immediately released after interrogation.

467. On 25 July 1996 the Special Rapporteur made an urgent appeal in conjunction with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Sudan on behalf of Moneim Attia and Nagib Nejm al-Din, former Secretary General of the Sudan Doctors' Union, who were reportedly arrested in Khartoum on 8 and 13 July 1996 respectively.
٧٦٤- وفي ٥٢ تموز/يوليه ٦٩٩١، وجه المقرر الخاص نداءً عاجلاً بالاشتراك مع المقرر الخاص المعني بحالة حقوق اﻹنسان في السودان لصالح عبد المنعم عطية ونجيب نجم الدين، اﻷمين العام السابق لنقابة اﻷطباء السودانية، اللذين أُفيدا أنه أُلقي القبض عليهما في الخرطوم في ٨ و٣١ تموز/يوليه ٦٩٩١ على التوالي.

12.13 The State party argues that its position in this regard should be seen against the background of the experience gained from the proceedings relating to the case of Hanan Attia.

Furthermore, in January 2003 counsel for Hanan Attia appended a briefing note from Amnesty International in London to his own observations, from which it was clear that counsel had made the State party's observations of 8 March 2002 available to Amnesty International.
كما أن محامي حنان عطية قام في كانون الثاني/يناير 2003 بتذييل ملاحظاته بمذكرة إعلامية من مكتب منظمة العفو الدولية (Amnesty International) في لندن تَبيَّن منها أن المحامي أطلع المنظمة على ملاحظات الدولة الطرف المؤرخة 8 آذار/مارس 2002.

13.5 In light of this assessment, the Committee considers it appropriate to observe that its decision in the current case reflects a number of facts which were not available to it when it considered the largely analogous complaint of Hanan Attia, where, in particular, it expressed itself satisfied with the assurances provided.
13-5 وفي ضوء هذا التقييم، ترى اللجنة مناسباً أن تلاحظ أن قرارها في القضية الراهنة يعكس عدداً من الوقائع التي لم تكن متاحة لها عندما نظرت في شكوى مشابهة جداً هي شكوى حنان عطية()، التي أعربت فيها عن ارتياحها للضمانات المقدمة.
