80. At its 1999 resumed session, the Chairman of the Committee, Wahid Ben Amor (Tunisia), underlined in his opening statement that the Section was facing an increasing workload, due to the greater number of organizations in consultative status with the Council.

21. Mr. Ben Amor (Tunisia) said that globalization of the many social problems besetting the world constituted a new challenge to the entire international community; only solidarity between developed and developing countries could lead to a solution.

Mr. Ben Amor (Tunisia) said that his country attached particular importance to the question of the rights of the child, and had adopted a comprehensive set of measures as part of a national programme of action with objectives in accordance with the World Declaration on the Survival, Protection and Development of Children.

71. Mr. Ben Amor (Tunisia) said that although his delegation was one of the sponsors of the draft resolution, it was not at all concerned by the seventh preambular paragraph and it was even less by the recommendations made by the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights in her report.

Mr. Ben Amor (Tunisia) said that the world had recently witnessed two felicitous events: the dismantling of the institutionalized form of racism which had constituted the apartheid system in South Africa and, secondly, the positive developments in the situation in the Middle East with the signature of the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements by Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization in September 1993.
٣٧ - السيد بن عمر )تونس(: قال إن العالم قد شهد مؤخرا حدثين سعيدين هما القضاء على الشكل المؤسسي للعنصرية ألا وهو نظام الفصل العنصري في جنوب افريقيا وذلك من ناحية ومن ناحية أخرى التطور الايجابي للحالة في الشرق اﻷوسط نتيجة توقيع اسرائيل ومنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية في أيلول/ سبتمبر ١٩٩٣ إعلان المبادئ المتعلق بترتيبات الحكم الذاتي المؤقت.

95. Further to the issues concerning the principles governing the nature of the consultative relationship between NGOs and the Council, the Committee Chairman, Wahid Ben Amor (Tunisia), reminded the members of the Committee of his opening statement and the decision of the Council to withdraw the status of Christian Solidarity International, an organization which was recognized by the Committee not to have fully adhered to these principles.
95 - وعن القضايا المتعلقة بالمبادئ التي تنظم طبيعة العلاقة الاستشارية بين المنظمات غير الحكومية والمجلس، ذكَّر رئيس اللجنة، وحيد بن عمر (تونس)، أعضاء اللجنة ببيانه الافتتاحي وبالقرار الذي اتخذه المجلس بسحب المركز الاستشاري من منظمة التضامن المسيحي الدولية وهي منظمة اعتبرت اللجنة أنها لم تلتزم التزاما تاما بهذه المبادئ.

Mr. Ben Amor (Tunisia) reiterated his delegation's support for United Nations activities to alleviate the suffering of refugees and welcomed the work of UNHCR and the ties that it had established with the World Food Programme, UNICEF, the United Nations Population Fund, WHO and UNDP.
