My delegation has read with interest the report of the Group of Governmental Experts, so ably chaired by Ambassador Rivas of Colombia, on the relationship between disarmament and development in the current international context.

My delegation, therefore, welcomes the Secretary-General's proposal for the establishment of a group of governmental experts to undertake an appraisal of the relationship between disarmament and development in the current international context.

In that regard, Algeria gives its full support to the proposal of the Secretary-General to create a group of governmental experts to study the relationship between disarmament and development in the current international context, as well as the future role of the United Nations in that domain.
