While in the past the United Nations regional Cartographic Conferences for Asia and the Pacific had mainly focused on data development, more attention had to be paid to disaster mitigation at the conferences, beginning with the Seventeenth United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Asia and the Pacific.
ولما كان تركيز مؤتمرات الأمم المتحدة الإقليمية لرسم الخرائط لآسيا والمحيط الهادئ قد انصب في الماضي أساسا على تطوير البيانات، فقد وجب إيلاء مزيد من الاهتمام لتخفيف آثار الكوارث في المؤتمرات، بدءا بمؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الإقليمي السابع عشر لرسم الخرائط لآسيا والمحيط الهادئ.

In view of the importance of involving experts on land administration for the development of spatially enabled Government, he mentioned that such experts needed to be involved in future United Nations Regional Cartographic Conferences for Asia and the Pacific and PCGIAP activities.

8. The regional Cartographic Conferences for Asia and the Pacific (convened every three years; 18 conferences since 1955) and of the Americas (convened every four years; nine conferences since 1976) constitute an important regional mechanism for the exchange of information among national mapping and surveying authorities and the international scientific organizations active in geospatial information.
