In the light of the dire humanitarian situation, the Committee welcomed the appointment by the Secretary-General and dispatch to the region of his Personal Humanitarian Envoy, Ms. Catherine Bertini, with the mandate to assess the nature and the scale of the humanitarian crisis facing the civilian population in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
