For this reason, pursuant to article 84, paragraph 2, of the Convention, coastal States are obliged to give due publicity to charts or lists of geographical coordinates of points and, in the case of those indicating the outer limit lines of the continental shelf, to deposit a copy of such charts or lists with the Secretary-General of the Authority.

A note verbale or a letter by the Permanent Representative to the United Nations or other person considered as representing the State Party, addressed to the Secretary-General, should be submitted together with the charts or lists of geographical coordinates of points, indicating under which article of the Convention the deposit is being effected.

3. At the very minimum, all coastal States parties should by now have established in accordance with the Convention the baselines and the maritime zones they wish to claim and have deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations charts or lists of geographical coordinates showing the limits of maritime zones to which they are entitled.
