54. The Special Rapporteur continues to receive allegations of torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment against children.24 He notes that torture and other forms of ill-treatment have a serious impact on the psyche and development of children who have been subjected to its violence.

477. The Committee recommends to the State party that it continue its efforts to improve the systematic collection of data concerning the situation of children, inter alia concerning children who have been subjected to violence and abuse, children who do not start, or drop out of, upper secondary school, children within the alternative care system and immigrant children.

15. The Committee regrets the lack of data on many areas covered by the Optional Protocol, including the number of children recruited by armed groups, the number of children who have been prosecuted and sentenced for participation in armed conflict and the number of children who have been subjected to grave human rights violations as a result of the armed conflicts in Darfur and Southern Sudan.
