The General Assembly takes note of the notes by the Secretary-General on death and disability benefits A/C.5/53/66 and A/C.5/54/13. and on the progress made in clearing the backlog of claims for incidents.
إن الجمعية العامة تحيط علما بمذكرتَي اﻷمين العام المتعلقتين باستحقاقات الوفاة والعجز)٣( وبالتقدم المحرز في تصفية المطالبات المتراكمة المتعلق بالحوادث. ــ ــ ــ ــ ــ )٣( A/C.5/53/66 و A/C.5/54/13.

On the proposal of the Chairman, the Committee decided, without a vote, to recommend to the General Assembly that it take note of the note by the Secretary-General on the quarterly report for the period from 1 October to 31 December 1998 on progress made in clearing the backlog of claims for incidents.
وبناء على اقتراح من الرئيس، قررت اللجنة، دون تصويت، أن توصي الجمعية العامة بأن تحيط علما بمذكرة اﻷمين العام عن التقرير الفصلي عن التقدم المحرز في تصفية المطالبات المتراكمة المتعلقة بحوادث الوفاة والعجز، الذي يغطي الفترة من ١ تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر إلى ٣١ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٨.

On the proposal of the Chairman, the Committee decided, with-out a vote, to recommend to the General Assembly that it take note of the note by the Secretary-General on the quarterly report for the period from 1 January to 31 March 1999 on progress made in clearing the backlog of claims for incidents.
بناء على اقتراح الرئيس، قررت اللجنة، بدون تصويت، أن توصي الجمعية العامة بأن تحيط علما بمذكرة اﻷمين العام بشأن التقرير الفصلي للفترة من ١ كانون الثاني/ينايــر إلى ٣١ آذار/ مارس ١٩٩٩ الذي يتناول التقدم المحرز في تصفية المطالبات المتراكمة المتصلة بحوادث الوفاة والعجز.

The Committee was informed that the impact of the additional temporary resources provided for 2008 for the purpose of clearing the backlog had been tempered by the unusually large number of new cases that had been received in the first half of 2008.
وأُبلغت اللجنة أن العدد الكبير بصورة غير معهودة للقضايا الجديدة التي وردت في النصف الأول من عام 2008 قد خفف من أثر الموارد المؤقتة الإضافية المتاحة لعام 2008 لغرض البت في القضايا المتأخرة.

It is grateful to the Executive Directorate for its effort in clearing the backlog.
وتُعرب عن امتنانها للمديرية التنفيذية على جهودها من أجل تصفية الأعمال المتأخرة.

To make this option feasible, the Secretary-General proposes, as a transitional measure, that the Dispute Tribunal be strengthened by three ad litem judges and support staff for 2009 with a view to clearing the backlog.
وبغية جعل هذا الاختيار، يقترح الأمين العام، كتدبير انتقالي، أن يتم تعزيز محكمة المنازعات بثلاث قضاة مخصصين وبعدد من موظفي الدعم في عام 2009 من أجل الانتهاء من القضايا المتأخرة.

It is recalled that as at 19 May 1997 a backlog of 564 death and disability claims awaited processing, and that the General Assembly, in its resolution 51/239 A of 17 June 1997, requested the Secretary-General to submit to it quarterly reports on the progress made in clearing the backlog.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن المطالبات المتراكمة بشأن الوفاة والعجز التي كانت تنتظر التجهيز في 19 أيار/مايو 1997 بلغت 564 مطالبة، وإلى أن الجمعية العامة طلبت إلى الأمين العام، في قرارها 51/239 ألف المؤرخ 17 حزيران/يونيه 1997 أن يقدم إليها تقارير فصلية عن التقدم المحرز في تصفية المطالبات المتراكمة.

9 - وزودت اللجنة الاستشارية، عند الطلب، بمعلومات تتعلق بالتقدم المحرز في البت في القضايا المتأخرة في مجالس الطعون المشتركة واللجان التأديبية المشتركة والمحكمة الإدارية للأمم المتحدة، إضافةً إلى حالة إنفاق الموارد المتاحة لهذا الغرض في الميزانية البرنامجية لفترة السنتين 2008-2009 (انظر المرفق).

9. Upon request, the Advisory Committee was provided with information concerning progress in clearing the backlog in the Joint Appeals Boards, the Joint Disciplinary Committees and the United Nations Administrative Tribunal, as well as the status of expenditure of resources provided for that purpose in the programme budget for the biennium 2008–2009 (see annex to the present document).
9 - وزودت اللجنة الاستشارية، عند الطلب، بمعلومات تتعلق بالتقدم المحرز في البت في القضايا المتأخرة في مجالس الطعون المشتركة واللجان التأديبية المشتركة والمحكمة الإدارية للأمم المتحدة، إضافة إلى حالة إنفاق الموارد المتاحة لهذا الغرض في الميزانية البرنامجية لفترة السنتين 2008-2009 (انظر المرفق).

The continued need for this post should be reviewed in the context of the proposed programme budget for 2014-2015, taking into account the progress made in clearing the backlog.
وينبغي استعراض مدى استمرار الحاجة لهذه الوظيفة في سياق الميزانية البرنامجية المقترحة لفترة السنتين 2014-2015، مع مراعاة ما يحرز من تقدم في تصفية الأعمال المتأخرة.

The Committee also recommends approval of the strengthening of the Dispute Tribunal through the addition of three ad litem judges for a 12-month period following the establishment of the Tribunal, with a view to clearing the backlog.
كما توصي اللجنة بالموافقة على تعزيز محكمة المنازعات من خلال إضافة ثلاثة قضاة مخصصين لفترة 12 شهرا تلي إنشاء المحكمة، وذلك بغية الانتهاء من القضايا المتأخرة.

The Advisory Committee also recommends approval of the strengthening of the Dispute Tribunal through the addition of three ad litem judges for a 12-month period following the establishment of the Tribunal, with a view to clearing the backlog.
كما توصي اللجنة بالموافقة على تعزيز محكمة المنازعات من خلال إضافة ثلاثة قضاة مخصصين لفترة 12 شهرا تلي إنشاء المحكمة، وذلك بغية الانتهاء من القضايا المتأخرة.

The Department explained that it had also considered the options of issuing all summary records within three months, increasing the use of contractual translators and sharing the work of clearing the backlog with other duty stations.
