In accordance with paragraph 11 of section I of the omnibus decisions, the secretariats have developed a report on other clearing-house mechanisms and similar mechanisms in the area of chemicals and wastes, including the clearing-house mechanism of the Strategic Approach, with a description of their basic characteristics and the extent to which they contain elements that could be considered for inclusion in the joint clearing-house mechanism.

There are difficulties surrounding the acquisition, storage, retrieval and dissemination of TFRK outside its place of origin, arising from a lack of effective measures to protect and manage TFRK and from the nature of TFRK, which is largely site-specific and culture-specific and not amenable to being digitized, stored in databases or accessed through clearing-house mechanisms.
