IMO informed the meeting that the International Code for the Safe Carriage of Packaged Irradiated Nuclear Fuel, Plutonium and High-level Radioactive Wastes on Board Ships (the INF Code), which was adopted by consensus by its Maritime Safety Commission, would become mandatory under chapter VII of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), with effect from 1 January 2001.
