89. The Special Committee notes that the General Assembly, in its resolution 49/233, has requested the Secretary-General to submit proposals on possible revisions to the current compensation arrangements in respect of death and disability benefits, and encourages the competent bodies of the General Assembly to arrive at an early decision on this matter.
٨٩ - وتحيط اللجنة الخاصة علما بأن الجمعية العامة، في قرارها ٤٩/٢٣٣، طلبت الى اﻷمين العام تقديم اقتراحات عن إمكان إدخال تنقيحات على ترتيبات التعويض الحالية فيما يتعلق باستحقاقات الوفاة والعجز، وتشجع الهيئات المختصة التابعة للجمعية العامة على التوصل الى قرار مبكر بشأن هذه المسألة.

2. Requests the Secretary-General to submit concrete proposals, based on the principles contained in paragraph 1 above, on possible revisions to the current compensation arrangements and, in doing so, to include detailed information on the administrative and financial implications of, inter alia, the following options:
٢ - تطلب إلى اﻷميــن العــام أن يقــدم مقترحـات محددة، استنادا إلى المبدأ الوارد في الفقرة ١ أعلاه، بشأن إمكانية تنقيح ترتيبات التعويض الحالية وأن يدرج، لدى قيامه بذلك، معلومات تفصيلية عن اﻵثار اﻹدارية والمالية المترتبة، في جملة أمور، على الخيارات التالية:

The European Union welcomed the efforts of the Secretary-General in response to the General Assembly's request (resolution 49/233, para. 2) to submit concrete proposals on possible provisions to the current compensation arrangements.
وأعرب عن ترحيب الاتحاد اﻷوروبي بالجهود التي يبذلها اﻷمين العام استجابة لطلب الجمعية العامة )القرار ٤٩/٢٣٣، الفقرة ٢( أن يقدم مقترحات محددة بشأن إمكانية تنقيح ترتيبات التعويض الحالية.

In this connection, the point was made that " general " meant that the draft principles were general principles to guide State practice, and it was up to States concerned to adopt by agreement concrete measures for their implementation; and " residual " was understood to mean that, in application, particular or specific compensation arrangements would take precedence over the draft principles.
