At its forty-fourth session (26 February-1 March 2013), the Statistical Commission created the Friends of the Chair group on broader measures of progress (decision 44/114) in response to the request of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development to launch a programme of work on broader measures of progress to complement gross domestic product in order to better inform policy decisions.
