In accordance with paragraphs 6 (e) and 23 of resolution 1306 (2000) concerning the situation in Sierra Leone and paragraph 30 of resolution 1295 (2000) concerning the situation in Angola, a press conference was held in New York on 11 September 2000, following the inscription of " The role of diamonds in fuelling conflicts " as agenda item 175 of the fifty-fifth session of the General Assembly.

The Panel took note of the report of the Panel of Experts established pursuant to resolution 1306 (2000) concerning the situation in Sierra Leone (S/2000/1195) of 19 December 2000 and the responses received from countries and individuals mentioned in the report.

At the informal consultations of the whole held on 10 July 1997, the members of the Council considered a letter dated 9 July 1997 from the representative of Nigeria (S/1997/531) requesting a formal meeting of the Security Council on 11 July 1997 to hear the Committee of Four of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) (Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea and Nigeria), concerning the situation in Sierra Leone.

66. In addition to regular contacts with ECOWAS officials concerning the situation in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau, UNHCR participated in a regional forum on the role of ECOWAS in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in West Africa.
٦٦ - باﻹضافة إلى الاتصالات المنتظمة القائمة بين مفوضية اﻷمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين وموظفي الجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا فيما يتعلق بالحالة في سيراليون وليبريا وغينيا - بيساو، شاركت المفوضية في منتدى إقليمي بشأن دور الجماعة الاقتصادية لدول غرب أفريقيا في منع المنازعات وإدارتها وحلها في غرب أفريقيا.
