Regarding financial flows, in 1995 about 80 per cent of foreign direct investment had gone to only a handful of developing countries. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has continued to support the regional economic integration efforts of the SADC countries in the context of annual consultations on article IV of the IMF Articles of Agreement, the provision of concessional assistance from the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility for structural adjustment programmes and technical assistance aimed at capacity-building in critical areas of macroeconomic policy.
