In this connection, my delegation welcomes the invitation in paragraph 4 of the resolution just adopted to the President to propose ways and means to facilitate an in-depth discussion by the Assembly of matters contained in the reports submitted to it by the Security Council.
وفي هذا الصدد، يرحب وفدي بدعوة الرئيس في الفقرة ٤ من القرار الذي اتخذ توا الى اقتراح الوسائل والسبل المناسبة لتيسير إجراء الجمعية لمناقشة متعمقة للمسائل الواردة في التقارير المقدمة إليها من مجلس اﻷمن.

The Secretary-General shall ensure the confidentiality of all data and information contained in the reports submitted under regulation 5 in accordance with the provisions of regulations 38 and 39, provided that data and information relating to environmental monitoring programmes shall not be considered confidential.

The Rapporteur stated that given the relatively short time of two years during which the follow-up procedure has been implemented, the information contained in the reports submitted suggests that the follow-up procedure is achieving its stated goal of acting as a tool of implementation of the Convention and more specifically the identified recommendations set out in selected concluding observations.

In this regard, operative paragraph 4 of General Assembly resolution 48/264 invites the President of the Assembly to propose appropriate ways and means to facilitate an in-depth discussion by the Assembly of matters contained in the reports submitted to it by the Council and, it implies, to consider possible action which may be proposed by delegations on these reports.
وفي هذا الصدد، تدعو الفقرة ٤ من قرار الجمعية العامة ٤٨/٢٦٤ رئيس الجمعية الى أن يقترح وسائل وسبلا مناسبة لتيسير قيام الجمعية العامة بمناقشة المسائل الواردة في التقارير المقدمة اليها من المجلس مناقشة متعمقة. ويعني ذلك ضمنا النظر في إمكانية اتخاذ إجراء تقترحه الوفود بشأن هذه التقارير.

In conclusion, I should like to emphasize — as my delegation has done previously — the importance of implementing resolution 48/264 on the revitalization of the work of the Assembly, in which, among other things, the President of the General Assembly is invited to propose ways and means of facilitating an in-depth discussion by the Assembly of matters contained in the reports submitted to it by the Security Council.
وفي الختام، أود أن أؤكد - كما فعل وفد بلادي في السابق - على أهمية تنفيذ القرار ٤٨/٢٦٤ بشأن تنشيط أعمال الجمعيــة العامــة، الذي، في جملة أمور، يدعو رئيس الجمعية العامة إلى اقتراح السبل والوسائل لتيسير إجراء الجمعية مناقشة متعمقة للمسائل الواردة في التقارير المقدمة إليها من مجلس اﻷمن.

3. The deliberations of the Committee at its eighteenth session are reflected in its report to the General Assembly. 1/ The present report is intended to update information previously provided and to avoid, as much as possible, duplication of the material contained in the reports submitted to the Committee.
٣ - وترد مداولات اللجنة خلال دورتها الثامنة عشرة في تقريرها المقدم إلى الجمعية العامة. )١( والغرض من هذا التقرير تحديث المعلومات التي سبق تقديمها، والحرص قدر المستطاع على تفادي المواد الواردة في التقارير التي قُدمت إلى اللجنة.
