He therefore encourages the new mandate holder to continue the established cooperation with the secretariats of environmental conventions, in particular the secretariat of the Basel Convention, and to seek ways to establish a closer and more coordinated collaboration with UNEP, ILO and WHO.

In the area of cooperation with the secretariats of other international and regional instruments, the following activities are proposed:

Recent examples include cooperation with the secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, FAO, IOC and UNEP.

Welcomes the progress made in implementing cooperation with the secretariats of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification, particularly in Africa, and encourages further cooperation;

External relations: consultation and cooperation with the secretariats of other international and multilateral organizations active in the field of environment in order to promote coordination of work and avoid duplication.
