The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations provides coordination and guidance to the United Nations system with a view to ensuring that the policy guidelines contained in the General Assembly resolution are implemented.

The United Nations should play a leading role in making the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction system a genuine multi-stakeholder vehicle for promoting and catalysing widespread engagement on disaster risk reduction and climate change issues, and for mobilizing commitment and providing international coordination and guidance to implement the Hyogo Framework for Action.

9.1.
