In accordance with General Assembly resolution 2997 (XXVII), section I, paragraph 1, and decision 43/406, the Governing Council of UNEP consists of 58 members elected by the Assembly according to the following pattern:

4. The General Assembly, by its resolution 2205 (XXI), established the Commission with a membership of 29 States, elected by the Assembly.
٤ - أنشأت الجمعية العامة، بموجب قرارها ٥٠٢٢ )د - ١٢(، اللجنة بحيث تضم في عضويتها ٩٢ دولة، تنتخبها الجمعية.

Under rule 31 of the rules of procedure, the President of the General Assembly is elected by the Assembly and holds office until the close of the session at which he was elected.
بمقتضى المادة ١٣ من النظام الداخلي، تنتخب الجمعية العامة رئيسها الذي يتولى منصبه حتى اختتـام الـدورة التي ينتخـب لها.

At present, the members and alternate members elected by the Assembly are the following:
وفيما يلي أسماء الأعضاء والأعضاء المناوبين الحاليين الذين انتخبتهم الجمعية:

(h) " Prosecutor " means the Prosecutor elected by the Assembly of States Parties to the Statute in accordance with its article 42, paragraph 4;

59. The membership of the Council, elected by the Assembly at its second session, comprises four groups representing four sets of special interests, as well as a group reflecting the principle of equitable geographical distribution.
٥٩ - وأعضاء المجلس، الذين تنتخبهم الجمعية في دورتها الثانية، يتألفون من أربع مجموعات تمثل أربع فئات للمصالح الخاصة، الى جانب مجموعة تعكس مبدأ عدالة التوزيع الجغرافي.

That said, we remain convinced that a more democratic, more representative and more accountable, and thus more legitimate, Security Council can be achieved only through an expansion in the category of non-permanent members, namely, those that are periodically elected by the Assembly and therefore have the support of a very large majority of United Nations Members.
وإلى جانب ذلك، إننا على اقتناع بأنه لا يمكن إيجاد مجلس أمن أكثر ديمقراطية، وأكثر تمثيلا وأكثر مساءلة، وبالتالي أكثر شرعية إلاّ من خلال توسيع فئة الأعضاء غير الدائمين وهم الذين تنتخبهم الجمعية بصورة دورية ولذلك يحظون بتأييد أغلبية كبيرة جدا من الدول الأعضاء في الأمم المتحدة.
