The resolution further invited Member States, the United Nations system and all other relevant stakeholders to develop, support and intensify activities aimed at fostering respect for and the promotion and protection of all languages, in particular endangered languages, linguistic diversity and multilingualism.

Languages are expressly mentioned in the first article of the UNESCO Constitution. From 1 April to 30 September 2008, the UNESCO office in Brasilia, in partnership with the Instituto de Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Política Lingüística, coordinated a major survey of the current state of linguistic diversity and ongoing related activities in Brazil, emphasizing the links between intangible heritage (including endangered languages) and cultural diversity.

On 19 February 2008, in the framework of International Mother Language Day, the Pan South African Language Board, with the support of the National Commission for UNESCO of South Africa, organized a programme in Pretoria focusing on the reinforcement of multilingualism and on the protection of minority endangered languages (especially Khoe, San and Nama in the Northern Cape area of South Africa).

In March 2003, an international expert meeting on the UNESCO programme entitled " Safeguarding of endangered languages " was held at UNESCO headquarters; some 40 experts (including native speakers) and representatives of specialized NGOs attended (for further information, see http://www.unesco.org/ culture/endangeredlanguages).

29. UNESCO's Communication and Information Sector supported the development of standards to ensure the presence of endangered languages in the digitalized environment as well as research on language scripts and their representation in information exchange standards (UNICODE).
29 - وقد دعم قطاع الاتصالات والإعلام في اليونسكو وضع معايير لضمان تواجد اللغات المعرضة للاندثار في البيئة الرقمية بالإضافة إلى البحث في مجال حروف كتابة اللغات وصياغتها في معايير تبادل المعلومات (الترميز الموحد).

In the framework of the UNESCO Red Book of Languages in Danger of Disappearing Project, studies of seriously endangered languages in the South-Western Pacific, Siberia, Australia, Indonesia and Thailand were carried out, and an International Clearing House for endangered languages set up in Tokyo.

The Independent Expert on minority issues welcomes the work undertaken by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to protect endangered languages and promote linguistic diversity.
وتُرحب الخبيرة المستقلة المعنية بقضايا الأقليات بالعمل الذي تضطلع به منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة (اليونسكو) لحماية اللغات المهددة بالانقراض وتعزيز التنوع اللغوي.

Furthermore, in March 2003, in the framework of the follow-up to the Year for Cultural Heritage, UNESCO brought together experts from all over the world, including native speakers of endangered languages, with the aim of refining and re-targeting the organization's action in the field of endangered languages.
