14. JIU/REP/2003/7, evaluation of the United Nations Volunteers Programme. The report was aimed at evaluating the administrative and management structure and methods of a programme whose activities, number of volunteers, network of partners, financial resources and staff have considerably increased in recent years in response to a changing and expanding mandate.

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit to the members of the General Assembly the report of the Joint Inspection Unit entitled " evaluation of the United Nations Volunteers Programme " (JIU/REP/2003/7).
يتشرف الأمين العام بأن يحيل إلى أعضاء الجمعية العامة تقرير وحدة التفتيش المشتركة المعنون " تقييم برنامج متطوعي الأمم المتحدة " (JIU/REP/2003/7).

1. Takes note of the report of the Secretary-General, the report of the Joint Inspection Unit on the evaluation of the United Nations Volunteers Programme and the note by the Secretary-General transmitting his comments thereon, and endorses the observations and recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, as contained in paragraphs 70 to 72 of its report;

Mr. Gorita (Chairman of the Joint Inspection Unit), introducing via videoconference from Geneva the report of the Joint Inspection Unit on the evaluation of the United Nations Volunteers Programme (A/59/68), said that the Unit had evaluated the administrative and management structure and methods of the Programme with a view to recommending improvements to ensure the most efficient use of resources.
