FORNESSA is a federation of three subregional forestry research networks: the Association of Forestry Research Institutions in Eastern Africa (AFREA), the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD) and the forestry research and training unit of the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR) Directorate within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) secretariat.
